Guggenheim project for Vilnius

The government of Lithuania has approved the development of a new museum in its capital, Vilnius.

A joint project between Lithuania, the Guggenheim and the State Hermitage Museum in Russia, the Vilnius Guggenheim Hermitage Museum is set to open in 2013 and expects to attract 400,000 visitors annually.

"This is an important project, in a move to attract tourists to Lithuania," said Gediminas Kirkilas, the country's prime minister. "It is also important to Lithuania's image."

The museum will build its own collection and display art from the Hermitage and the Guggenheim.
