Co-sponsors from various parts of the US have been added to proposed online gambling legislation.

Representative Michael M Honda from California, Representative Ed Perimutter from Colorado, Representative Ciro D Rodriguez from Texas and Representative Robert E Andrews from New Jersey have all now co-sponsored the bill put forward by Barney Frank.

This comes after the US Government seized over US$30m from accounts that were to pay out online poker winnings, apparently fuelling the desire of lawmakers to change the internet gambling laws in the country.

The bill, which would not only legalise internet gambling but also lay the framework for regulation of the industry, has been steadily gaining support over the past few months. There are now 34 co-sponsors, of which eight were added in the past two weeks. Frank has tried to have the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act overturned in the past but ran into opposition from a Republican-led Congress.
