Stuart Keane loses son

Well-known UK industry personality Stuart Keane has reported the sad loss of his son, Shaun, a victim of motor neurone disease for the past three years.

Shaun died on Saturday evening in hospital aged 31. His disease led to Stuart helping to pioneer a dedicated research institute, which will open at the end of this year. The Sheffield Institute of Transitional Neuroscience will research MND as well as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases. The campaign has so far raised £15m of the £20m needed.

Shaun was one of three sons of the Keane family, all of whom won the Coin Slot Golf Tournament in the 1980s. He had been helping to run the family arcades business in the Humberside area of northern England.

  • Dear Tom Veitch, Thank you for those very kind words of condolence. you, Eileen and myself got to really know eachother in Beijing all those years ago at the very first convention held in china of the amusement park business. I remember fondly the great humor Eileen and yourself had. I must tell you it was very very sad when i learnt that Eileen contracted Motor Neurone Disease. I did know unlike most people quite a lot about the terrible consequences of Motor Neurone Disease as two my very dear friends, Don Revie and Graham "Grabsy" Wilson, a fellow formal professional rugby league player both died of MND. However, until someone close to you has MND, you really don't know how terrible it is. We always joked together about that little known international currency, ''The Keeble''. i know that Eileen left you over a billion Keebles worth. I have spent all mine, perhaps you would like to make a donation of Keebles to the Sheffield Institute Foundation in memory of Shaun? I will be writing you a personal letter. Kindest regards to my old friend, Stuart.
