InterGame Expo supports industry

InterGame's David Snook has defended the company's decision to launch a new London show in January 2009.

Negative comments, put out in an ATEI press release, have been met with regret by Snook, who commented: "It is a pity that the launch of InterGame Expo appears to be causing so much consternation at ATEI.

"We are not 'opportunistic' or 'divisive.' We are simply running an industry event - a small one - for the industry, as a service to the amusement industry, and there is virtually no profit in it for us.

"It was clear that the malcontents, if we can call them that, were going to run their own hotel events anyway. All we have done is collect those companies together. I don't think that's divisive."

InterGame Expo, which will accommodate around 30-40 exhibitors at the Ibis Hotel, Lillie Road, two minutes' walk from Earls Court Exhibition Centre, has been generally well received by the amusement industry. It has been designed as a modestly-priced alternative to ATEI.

One early change in the show is the adjustment of the opening day. The show will now take place from Tuesday, January 27 to Thursday, January 29.

"We had originally planned for Monday to Wednesday," Snook continued. "But some of the first companies to reserve space felt that Tuesday to Thursday would be better, as it would avoid extra staffing costs at the weekend. We have to listen to the industry!"
