Sportsbook and online gaming software supplier OpenBet has extended its underlying technology to enable British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) to enhance its online sports offering on the Play Now Sports site.

PlayNow Sports has added more sports, leagues and tournaments and is the first regulated Canadian jurisdiction to offer new betting options such as live betting.

OpenBet has worked closely with BCLC since its launched its initial online gaming offering in June 2010, when it delivered Canada’s first online casino on OpenBet’s platform and centralised account.

Since then, OpenBet and BCLC have continued to develop the offering through the introduction of new casino games content and with today’s introduction of an extensive sportsbook product that will allow British Columbians’ to wager on a secure and legal site.

Paddy Power will be supplying the odds services for PlayNow Sports and will deliver up to the second market and price information which OpenBet’s LiveServ and LiveOdds will publish directly to the users’ browser in real-time. This arrangement between Paddy Power and OpenBet was also deployed with PMU, the government-backed betting organisation in France when it regulated its online gaming market in 2010.

David Loveday, chief executive officer at OpenBet, said: "After helping BCLC become the first jurisdiction in North America to offer legal online casino games in 2010, we are excited to be involved in the next phase of their offering. BCLC wanted a software provider that allowed them the flexibility to upgrade their offering as regulation developed and we have provided them with the support and expertise needed to do just that”.

Rhonda Garvey, VP of i-gaming, added: “Working with OpenBet and Paddy Power provides us with the expertise to deliver the very best sports betting products for our players and one that very few companies in the world have the expertise to deliver. Our players now have access to a much wider variety of sports on a site that is safe, secure and regulated”.
