Head of egaming development at the Isle of Man government Garth Kimber will be leaving his position in December, the department of economic development has confirmed.

Kimber, who has been in the role for almost five years, has decided to return to the private sector. The process to recruit and appoint a replacement has already commenced.

The post represents a significant role in the future development of the strategic aims of both the department of economic development and the Isle of Man gaming sector as a whole. The new appointee will continue to promote the industry in conjunction with the private sector, in order to attract new business to the island while at the same time ensuring that those already based there continue to enjoy a business environment optimised for their needs.

John Shimmin, minister for economic development, Isle of Man government, said: "The role is crucial in protecting and promoting one of our fastest growing industries, with the egaming sector growing by 24 per cent in 2010. Garth Kimber has brought great energy to the position over the past four and a half years and he will leave large shoes to fill. But we are confident that, as a result of the work he has done, the sector is strong and that we will find the right person to build on the success to date."
