Last week the Czech Republic senate approved the country’s new gambling law, offering president Miloš Zeman 30 days to sign the legislation, which could take effect as early as January, 2017.

The bill seeks to remove the limit on non-Czech operators obtaining online gambling licences, although the proposed levels of taxation may still prove prohibitive.

Under the proposals, online sports betting and lotteries will be taxed at 23 per cent of gross gaming revenue, while casino games attract a 35 per cent rate; all on top of the standard corporate tax rate of 19 per cent.
