National Lottery operator Camelot is on the verge of being chosen to run the US state of Pennsylvania’s lottery.

The company has been issued a notice of award by the state, although lawmakers are to have the final say.

Pennsylvania’s lottery would be the third to be privatised in the US, after Illinois and Indiana. It could also pave the way for the introduction of video lottery terminals, though there is some debate over whether this would require a change in the law.

Camelot, which was the only organisation to bid for the state lottery, is owned by the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan.
