Ten major companies are currently 'advising' the Greek government on methods by which it may set up street operations. We understand that the companies reflect the major names in gaming machines from the US and Europe.

All, inevitably, will be hoping to pitch for the licences to supply machines to the potential new Greek market. It has been revealed that the country will take 16,500 machines in the initial intake, through OPAP, the government organisation. Another 18,000 machines would be permitted next year.

OPAP is already operating the state lottery in Greece through a network of agents and shops and the intention is to put two or three machines in each shop which will probably be similar to VLTs. The regulations which will cover the import, installation and operation of the new market is not yet clear, but it is expected that two or three systems will be allowed to set up as the platforms for the new business.
