The UK industry, having just lost Bob Deith, had to endure more bad news with the loss of David Columbine, a long-serving industry character, who passed at the weekend in his late 60s.

Dave had been ill for some time and many of the mourners at Bob Deith’s funeral spoke with great affection of Dave, some having visited him in hospital only recently.

Dave Columbine worked for Alan Poulton, who one-time headed Bell-Fruit’s sales, but when Dave was with Alan it was for Alan’s distribution company. In the mid-1980s he joined Brent Leisure where he was a popular addition to the sales force. He left in 1993 and his later career took in several distributing companies, the longest-serving sector of which was at UDC and latterly JNC.

He was a very popular personality, for his ability to communicate with customers, his friendly wit and readiness to help others. No details of his funeral were to hand at the time of writing. Our sympathy goes to his family.
