Tuesday saw the 36th annual Irish Gaming Show in Dublin open its doors and once again this year the event has attracted operators, suppliers and a healthy number of international manufacturers.

The bulk of the exhibitors are either based locally or in the UK, although the likes of Apex, DLV, Synot, E-Gaming and Interblock are exploring opportunities in the Irish market. Amatic and Ainsworth also have a presence at the show.

The news from the show is that, predictably, there is no significant development in the ongoing process of updating the country’s antiquated gaming laws. It seems that with an election on the horizon, it is an issue that is highly unlikely to be resolved ahead of the country going to the polls.

Interestingly, demand for new pay-to-play amusement equipment appears to be strengthening, thanks in part to the improving economy, but also, as several exhibitors put it, through necessity. Operators are now purchasing newer equipment to update their locations.

The show closes today.
