Revenue from video lottery terminals in the US state of Illinois increased 119 per cent in 2014.

The machines, located in liquor-licensed establishments, generated revenue of $659.5m for the year. The state’s casinos, meanwhile, produced revenues of $1.5bn – a fall of 5.61 per cent.

By the end of December 2014, there were 19,812 VLTs in operation across the state. Some have suggested the market could reach 30,000 machines.
