Sceptre Leisure, the UK’s second-largest machine operator, has acquired Recaf Equipment, a Midlands-based operator formed in 1971.

Sceptre

The company, based in Droitwich, near Worcester, was founded by Brian Merriman, who turned it into a regional operator with most of its locations in the Midlands.

Merriman will remain with the company in a consultancy role, helping to consolidate Sceptre’s position in the Midlands, strengthened by the acquisition. It will bring Sceptre’s holding of coin-operated gaming and amusement machines to over 25,000.

Ken Turner, CEO at Sceptre, commented that the Recaf acquisition will fit neatly into the Sceptre business. He undertook to continue the Sceptre policy of both organic and acquisition-based expansion.

Sceptre Leisure is a major independent operator in which a substantial minority is held by Germany’s Gauselmann Group. Recaf is a member of the Independent Operators’ Association, a co-operative of smaller operators.
