Sonic the Hedgehog is to star in his very own animated movie, it has been announced.
Sony Pictures and Marza Animation, a production company within the Sega Sammy Group, are to develop a film based on the iconic character.
"There are limitless stories to tell with a character like Sonic the Hedgehog and a built-in international fan base,” said Hannah Mingella of Columbia Pictures, a division of Sony. “Along with our wonderful creative partners at Marza, we're looking to capture everything that generations of fans know and love about Sonic while also growing his audience wider than ever before."
The movie will include recognisable characters from the franchise, including Dr Eggman, and aim to capture Sonic’s “irreverent tone and spirit.”
