Having survived a 10-year period of turbulence and change, the bowling sector is still very much alive but what state is it in? Ian Donegan hit the lanes to find out more.

OVER the last decade, bowling has evolved to reach a broader and more diverse demographic through recreation and entertainment: bowlers looking more to enjoy rather than compete.

Today, bowling is the key anchor for a wide variety of entertainment centres, while also being found increasingly in less traditional venues such as malls, restaurants, casino resorts, nightclubs and cinemas. Existing bowling centres have modernised to add more entertainment options, improving and expanding their food and beverage offerings. The industry is served by several key manufacturers, chief among them Switch International, QubicaAMF, Brunswick and US Bowling.
