Macau’s gross gaming revenue increased by14.8 per cent to US$10.66bn in the first quarter of 2013 compared to the same quarter in 2012.

Revenues rose by 7.3 per cent in January to $3.358bn, followed by 12 per cent in February to $3.4bn, before hitting a monthly high of $3.92bn in March, an increase of 25.4 per cent compared to the same month last year.

The lucrative VIP market accounted for $7.2bn of the total $10.66bn, which represented a 9.8 per cent improvement compared to the first quarter of 2012. However, as an overall percentage of mass gaming revenue, high roller business remained fairly static in at 67.79 per cent compared to 67.84 per cent in 2012.

China’s only legal gambling resort has been growing steadily since overtaking Las Vegas as the world’s biggest gambling hub in 20006. Now the enclave with a population of 555,000 boasts 35 casinos with a total of 5,497 table games and 17,029 slot machines.
