Last month, the Chinese enclave’s casinos reported gross revenues of 25.04bn patacas ($3.12bn), up from 18.5bn patacas recorded in January last year.

The monthly increase of 34.8 per cent continues the Macau gaming industry’s remarkable performance, which, over the course of 2011, resulted in revenues totaling 267.8bn patacas.

Although most analysts agree that the world’s largest gaming market will continue to grow this year, some have suggested it will not repeat last year’s 42.2 per cent increase in revenues.

Credit ratings agency Standard and Poor’s recently predicted that Macau’s gaming market will grow by 10 to 15 per cent in 2012.
