David Coutts-Trotter resigned from his role as chief executive of South Africa’s Sun International hotel and casino group in November, citing personal reasons.

The company’s gaming operations director, Gareth Collins, who has been with the group for over 40 years, is acting as chief executive until a replacement is appointed.

Under Coutts-Trotter’s leadership since 2006, Sun International has expanded its interests in both West Africa and South America, as well as overseeing licence reapplications and major refurbishments at several properties.

Sun International said he had made a “significant contribution” to the company during his years in charge.
