In the US, Maryland's Video Lottery Facility Location Commission has rejected a proposal to build a casino in Baltimore, leaving the way open for a second project planned for the city.

Baltimore City Casino’s plan to build a gaming facility with 3,750 slot machines was rejected on the grounds that the company had failed to put up the $22.5m licence fee that was required.

The only remaining bidder, CBAC Gaming, a group linked to Caesars Entertainment, is also hoping to develop a casino in the city.

Maryland presently has two casinos - Hollywood Casino Perryville and the Casino at Ocean Downs. Revenue from the two properties totalled $13.1m in August.  The Commission is also considering proposals to locate 200 slot machines at Rocky Gap State Park.
