In an effort to crack down on illegal gambling, police in the Philippines have confiscated gaming equipment and made a number of arrests in the province of Pangasinan.

The Special Anti-Illegal Gambling Team, comprising several law enforcement agencies, arrested 25 people suspected of being involved in illegal gambling activities during 10 separate initiatives.

Aimed at eradicating the numbers game jueteng and other forms of illegal gambling in the region, the campaign also saw the confiscation of gambling equipment and cash used for wagers.

Regional police director Frank Bucayu said that a number of former Meridian Vista Gaming Corporation Jai-Alai gaming stations employees were involved in conducting illegal gaming operations. MVGC was closed in July when Jai-Alai operations were suspended.

Games of chance, card games and number-based games fall under the authority of the state-owned Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation, PAGCOR.
