US-based gaming manufacturer IGT has reported stronger second-quarter income than last year.

For the three months to March 31, the company’s GAAP income from continuing operations stood at $70m, compared with $26m in the same quarter last year. Total revenues for the quarter increased one per cent to $492m, of which 56 per cent was generated from gaming operations and 44 per cent from product sales.

For the six-month period to March 31, GAAP income increased to $143m, compared with $101m in the same period in the previous year.

"Our second quarter results reflect the advances we are making towards moving IGT to a position of greater financial strength," said Patti Hart, president and CEO of IGT. "We continue to demonstrate the leverage in our operating model with strong performance in profit margins. Although we remain in a challenging environment, the near and long-term outlooks for the company are improving and we look forward to reporting our progress in coming quarters."
