Gala Coral's chief executive, Dominic Harrison, is to leave the group in search of new career opportunities.

Neil Goulden, executive chairman of the company, will assume the role of interim chief executive until a replacement for Harrison, who will leave in October after six years with Gala, is found.

"Dominic has played a big role in the development of the group over the last six years and we are grateful for his contribution. He leaves with our thanks and best wishes for the future," said Goulden.

Harrison explained that his decision to leave is motivated by a desire to find "fresh challenges."

"I wish Neil and the rest of the team all the best as they take the company forward to the next phase in its development and ensure that it remains at the forefront of the sector," he said.

The Gala Group recently announced a host of changes to its board of director following its successful restructuring, which saw a new shareholder group comprising Apollo, Cerberus, Park Square and York Capital Management take control of the company. Among the new appointments were Charles Attwood, Don Kornstein, Barry Hardy and Wilf Walsh.
