The Australasian Gaming Expo got under way today against a background of records.

The show recorded its biggest-ever pre-registration, up 30 per cent on last year, the largest number of exhibitors in its 28-year history and the biggest floor-space ever occupied.

The show was celebrating its return to Sydney’s Darling Harbour after an absence enforced by the demolition of the old Sydney Exhibition Centre to be replaced by an all-new purpose-built International Convention Centre.

The exhibition, due for a three-day run, was expecting to host around 6,000 industry visitors from all over Australia, New Zealand and Pacific Rim countries. But the bulk of the visitors were made up of representatives of the Australasian clubs market that hosts the bulk of the output of machines by the major manufacturers.

They were out in force; Aristocrat, AGT, IGT, Aruze, SG Gaming and Konami were all there with major stands, supported by hundreds of companies representing every aspect of the Australasian gaming and attractions business.
