According to local media, Mexico is planning to allow casinos in hotels in key areas of economic development as part of its efforts to overhaul the country’s outdated gaming laws.

The Mexican government is understood to have presented a new gambling act that will create a new gaming advisory board, while at the same time permitting resort-style gaming properties in areas such as Cancun and Puerto Penasco, AZARplus reports.

Mexico’s gaming laws date back to the first half of the 20th century, although there have been subsequent revisions and reinterpretations that have created a great deal of uncertainty when it comes to casino licensing and the type of equipment permitted.

Despite the country’s huge potential, this has deterred many large, international casino equipment suppliers and operators from entering the market for fear of jeopardising their licences in other jurisdictions.
