Now managed by the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority, the casino celebrated its 35th anniversary in May last year with the opening of a $35m Margaritaville casino and entertainment complex as part of a $70m refurbishment of the entire property.

In addition to the jump in earnings, the casino noted an increase of around 12 per cent in hotel occupancy and a 40 per cent rise in food revenues.

“We are very encouraged by the Q2 earnings report,” said Morris Bailey, owner of Resorts. “The success of not only this property, but of Atlantic City – the town I grew up in - is of top importance to me. The horizon is bright at Resorts and I foresee a much healthier Atlantic City in the future as our city continues to develop into a world class regional destination.”

Resorts recently launched a free online gaming site for guests, created by Sportech-NYX Gaming. Last year, it also reached an agreement with Rational Services to make the PokerStars and FullTilt online gaming brands available in New Jersey. That agreement continues and is pending regulatory approval.
